What is Reflexology?

Our reflexology treatment focuses on the feet and ankles, involving gentle pressure and soothing massage techniques. By applying pressure to specific areas believed to correspond to other parts of the body, this therapy promotes deep relaxation and a sense of wellbeing. Clients frequently report experiencing a profound state of calm and feeling like they are reset and ready to go again following the treatment.

Our Lincoln reflexology clinic is proudly located in the heart of Nettleham, a village just north of the city. Our clients are from a wide catchment area, including Lincoln itself, and a variety of other local villages.

On your first visit, you will be asked some general questions about your health, lifestyle and medical history. You may want to wear loose, comfortable clothing and for after the treatment we’d recommend wearing socks and flat shoes or trainers. During the treatment, depending on what you find more comfortable, you can lie down or sit in a reclined position. Each foot is massaged in turn as the therapist applies a firm but relaxed pressure to the whole foot and ankle. There may occasionally be areas on the feet that feel a little uncomfortable which should ease quickly during the treatment.

There are a number of theories about what Reflexology may do. In Chinese medicine it is believed that ‘Qi’ (pronounced “chee”), or “vital energy” flows through each of us and when we feel stressed, our body may be blocking this. By applying the right pressure to the right areas, this can release the blockage and help our energy to flow freely again – it can feel like a ‘nodule’ (aka a ‘crunchy bit’) is in that area and the pressure can help to relieve this. A more science based theory is that our nerves connect our skin and internal organs, and our body’s entire nervous system tends to adjust to our external environment – including touch.

Using particular types of touch with different pressures, it can calm our central nervous system, promote feelings of deep relaxation and provide many of the benefits associated with any form of massage. This may include reducing pain, improving our circulation, improved sleep quality/focus and concentration levels, while also providing a sense of wellbeing and relief from physical and mental stress.

The reflexology treatment alone is 45 minutes long. You could also combine this with an Indian head massage for even deeper relaxation for 75 minutes. This allows for a comprehensive and indulgent experience with the benefits of both.

For your reflexology sessions, wear loose, comfortable clothing allowing easy access to the feet. If you have booked reflexology with a back massage, consider bringing a separate loose-fitting top to ensure optimal comfort and accessibility during the combined treatment. As for footwear, trainers or other comfortable shoes and socks are typically recommended as a light, moisturising oil is used during the treatment that nourishes the skin.

When an appointment is booked, the time is not available to anyone else to book. I know that sometimes things come up and plans need to be changed, so I ask that any appointment that needs to be cancelled or rescheduled, is changed with at least 24 hours in advance of the scheduled appointment time. You can cancel the appointment via your client portal up to 24 hours prior or get in touch.

As I work on a 1:1 basis, where an appointment is not cancelled with at least 24 hours notice, payment for the appointment will be required. Please do get in touch if you have any concerns or questions regarding this as I would like you to feel 100% comfortable about any booking you make.

I’ve recently moved to the area & was looking for a sports therapist for my daughter. After trying a few other therapist we were thrilled to find Lisa. She is both friendly & professional. Her knowledge is outstanding & she has a great set up at her home. I would highly recommend Lisa without hesitation.
