Regain Confidence & Freedom in Your Body

Pain in and around the pelvis, general muscle aches, bladder leaks, incontinence or pain during sex can quietly hold you back from living your full life — for months or even years. Many of the women I see say that they’ve been living with symptoms because they thought it was “normal” or “part of getting….(old/being pregnant/being postpartum/going through the menopause etc. – delete as necessary)”.

Often, symptoms have been dismissed or minimised, especially if you appear to be coping OK or if something doesn’t show up clearly on scans or tests. But just because these issues are common it doesn’t mean you have to live with it!

We rely on our pelvic floor constantly – it’s involved in almost every movement we make, helping to absorb shock, keep us upright and it supports our breathing. Women’s health physio will help you to understand how your pelvic floor and the rest of your body work together, identify what the issue is and how to treat it effectively so you can get back to doing what you love.

At some point in a woman’s life: up to 62% will experience urinary incontinence, 10% will struggle with pain before, during or after sex and around 50% will have some degree of pelvic organ prolapse – even without ever being pregnant or giving birth

How can pelvic health therapy help me get back to feeling myself?

We’ll look at how your pelvic floor works as part of your whole body. Treatment can include education, breathing strategies, movement and load management, relaxation techniques, strength work where appropriate, and lifestyle advice.

Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI)

One of the most common bladder conditions – where a leak happens if there’s a sudden increase in pressure on the bladder. This can happen during exercise, moving quickly, lifting something heavy or just by coughing, sneezing or laughing. It can affect women of all ages.

Your pelvic floor is meant to tighten and hold things in when you need it. If it’s not timing right or working in sync with your body, a leak can happen. It’s not always about weakness – often it’s coordination or tension. With the right guidance, you can retrain your body to respond better, so you can move, laugh, and live without worrying about your bladder.

Urge Urinary Incontinence (UUI)

When you suddenly feel a strong urge to wee and might not make it to the toilet in time – as if your bladder has taken over and doesn’t give you the time to react. It often happens because the bladder becomes oversensitive, sending signals to empty even when it’s not full. Even everyday triggers such as running water, cold weather, unlocking the front door – can set it off.

It can be really frustrating especially if there doesn’t seem to be a reason for it, but you’re not alone. With the right support, you can retrain your bladder, calm those urgent signals, and you can get back to moving through your day with confidence.

Overactive Bladder (OAB)

Overactive bladder happens when the muscles in the bladder wall become overexcited while it’s filling up. This can make you feel a sudden, urgent need to go, often more than 8 times a day, and sometimes you might not make it to the toilet in time. Being woken regularly more than once a night to wee are common too. Essentially, the bladder contracts before it’s actually full, making it feel fuller than it really is, and it can squeeze when you least expect it.

It can feel frustrating, tiring, and sometimes unpredictable, but with the right support and strategies, it’s possible to calm those signals and regain control.

Pelvic Pain

Whether it’s back pain, stomach pain, pelvic discomfort, or general muscle aches, you don’t need to feel like you’re supposed to put up with it. Many women have been living with pain for years, thinking it’s “normal” or “just part of getting older,” or being pregnant or menopausal. But common doesn’t mean unavoidable—you deserve to feel better.

Pain isn’t always just about the spot that hurts; it’s often your body’s way of signalling that something needs attention. We’ll work together to understand those signals and find the best way to get you back to feeling like yourself again, and to help prevent it from coming back.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you have questions, we have the answers!

If you can’t find the answer you’re looking for, don’t hesitate to get in touch on the phone or through our contact page.

Your first women’s health physio appointment will be for an hour, giving me the time to really understand your concerns and create a plan that works for you. During this session, we’ll focus on:

Getting to Know You: We’ll talk through your symptoms, how they affect your daily life, and any past injuries or experiences that could be relevant. This helps me understand your goals and what matters most to you.

Movement & Muscle Check: Together we’ll assess how your body and muscles move, looking at how your pelvic floor works in harmony with the rest of your body.

Clear Explanation: I’ll go through what we find in plain, easy-to-understand language so you know exactly what’s happening and why.

Tailored Therapy Plan: Together, we’ll map out a personalised plan, so you know what your sessions will involve and how many you might need.

Targeted Exercises: You will only have two or three carefully chosen exercises to support your recovery so you don’t feel overwhelmed.

Follow-up appointments are a chance to build on the progress we’ve made together and gently guide your recovery forward. Each session is tailored to how your body and symptoms are today, and what fits into your life.

Checking In
We’ll start by talking about how you’ve been getting on. What’s improved? What’s been tricky? How have the exercises fitted into your week? These conversations help us understand what’s working and what might need adjusting.

Progressing Your Treatment
As your body adapts, your exercises and advice will evolve too. i’ll review what you’ve been doing at home and make changes where needed. The goal is steady progress without feeling overwhelmed.

Hands-On Support
Only when it’s helpful, treatment might include gentle hands-on techniques, such as soft tissue work or release techniques, to support movement and ease tension.

Tracking Progress
We will check in on the things we noticed in your first session, so you can see how your body is changing over time. These moments let us celebrate wins, however small, and ensure you feel like you’re heading in the right direction.

Support & Next Steps
You’ll always leave with a clear plan and an understanding of the next steps. There’s no pressure to be perfect—progress, not perfection, is what matters.

If you have any questions between sessions or want to talk through anything before your next appointment, you can email support@inlinetherapies.co.uk or book an appointment online.

Due to the nature of the clinic, we do not have the facility to offer a chaperone for your appointment. Your first appointment does not need to include a vaginal examination. Instead, we focus on how your pelvic floor works with the rest of your body, rather than just looking at a pelvic floor contraction or squeeze on its own. This whole-body approach helps me to pinpoint the cause of your symptoms and design a personalised exercise plan to support a faster and more effective recovery.

In some cases, later in your treatment, a vaginal examination might provide extra insight and I would explain everything clearly and answer any questions you might have. The decision will always be completely yours, with your comfort and preferences respected at every step.

You are welcome to bring an informal chaperone, such as an adult family member or friend. Please note that for health and safety reasons, the clinic will need to be made aware that a chaperone will be present at the appointment at the time the booking is made.

If a chaperone is brought to an appointment without prior arrangement, the appointment will not proceed, however it will still be charged as it was reserved and it would not be possible for it to be filled at short notice by another person in need.

Every person is different, so there’s no set number and will depend on your symptoms, consistency with exercises and goals. For instance, research has shown that for urinary incontinence it typically takes around 3-4 months of consistent effort to notice changes and improvements in symptoms. That would mean most women would start to see improvements by the third session and many women are discharged by session five or six.

That means you could be just a few appointments away from feeling confident, comfortable, and back in control! We’ll work together to create a treatment plan that fits your lifestyle and goals and every small success will be celebrated along the way.

You’ll receive guidance on performing pelvic floor muscle exercises correctly, and advice around making lifestyle changes related to your specific issue. It’s so important to remain consistent with your treatment plan at home, even if it feels challenging at times. Without consistency, changes may take much longer or not happen at all.

Everything that we work through together, will provide you with the tools you need to manage these changes and maintain good pelvic health for life.

In most cases a GP referral is not required for physiotherapy at our clinic, meaning you can make an appointment with us directly.

However, there are a few exceptions where a doctor’s referral might be necessary. For instance, if your health insurance provider requires a referral for coverage, or if you have a specific medical condition that needs a doctor’s clearance before undergoing physiotherapy.

You would not have an internal examination if any of the following were relevant to you at the time of the appointment. However we can still complete a thorough assessment of everything else which will give us information to design a treatment and advice for you:

*First 3 months of pregnancy
*Within 6 weeks of vaginal or cesarean delivery
*Within 6 weeks after pelvic surgery
*Atrophic vaginitis, a condition of fragile skin seen in cases
of oestrogen deficiency
*Active pelvic infection
*Severe pelvic or vaginal pain, especially pain during
penetration or intercourse
*Children and pre-sexual adolescents

If you can’t or don’t want to have an internal vaginal examination, it does not mean that your treatment will be limited. There are lots of alternative ways for us to help you.

If you’re unsure whether you need a referral, feel free to get in touch for further advice. Remember, our primary goal is to make your path to recovery as smooth and straightforward as possible.

It’s best to wear comfortable, loose-fitting and/or flexible clothing that allows for easy movement.

If you have pelvic pain, low back pain and/or abdominal pain there is often an element of undressing required. This is also the case for any physiotherapy appointment.

It is usually best to bring, or wear trousers or a skirt that you are easy to take off and put back on, and a vest top, or sports bra. Alternatively, wear suitable underwear. Clothing needs to be comfortable and easy to move around in.

Please remember that your comfort is paramount during your physiotherapy sessions, and we want to ensure your clothing helps rather than hinders your progress.

When an appointment is booked, the time is not available to anyone else to book. I know that sometimes things come up and plans need to be changed, so I ask that any appointment that needs to be cancelled or rescheduled, is changed with at least 24 hours in advance of the scheduled appointment time. You can cancel the appointment via your client portal up to 24 hours prior or get in touch.

As I work on a 1:1 basis, where an appointment is not cancelled with at least 24 hours notice, payment for the appointment will be required. Please do get in touch if you have any concerns or questions regarding this as I would like you to feel 100% comfortable about any booking you make.
